Like the classic Christmas song goes, it’s the most wonderful time of the year. That’s right folks, it’s time for the year end celebrations to begin! Regardless of whether you celebrate the holiday in a religious sense, it’s always fun to exchange presents with family, friends and loved ones.

The decorations along Orchard Road have been up for the past couple of months, and by now you’re probably sick to death of Christmas carols being played at every store you step into. So what is it about the Yuletide season that seems to bring such cheer?

For starters, everybody loves a spot of retail therapy. Yes, even men who profess to hate shopping! After all, shopping isn’t just about carrying the girlfriend’s haul of new clothes and accessories; it’s also about buying new shiny toys like the latest mobile phone or home theatre system. You know the glint in the eye of girls when they’ve gotten the last piece of clothing on sale? That’s the same look in our eyes when we unbox the latest and greatest tech gadget.

Better yet, there’s another great holiday lurking around the corner just a week after that – I’m talking about the New Year, of course. Rarely do we get a chance to enjoy two public holidays in the span of a week, giving some of us the perfect opportunity to get away for a trip abroad or just take a break from the hustle and bustle of a hard year’s work.

So sit yourself down in your favourite armchair, put your feet up and enjoy the festivities. It’s the most wonderful time of the year indeed; a chance for us to look back on the year just past, take stock and get ready for the one to come. Happy holidays!
